BCSSA New Member Services
The key work of the BCSSA is to enable our members to be visionary leaders of public education by supporting their individual professional development and representing their collective wisdom and interests.
This program is currently under review.
Leadership Development Services for New Members
Membership in the BCSSA provides various opportunities for professional growth and collegial networking through annual conferences and forums that focus on advancing the student achievement agenda, effective leadership and the sharing of best practices.
As part of its commitment to provide support services to members new to their district role and the association, the BCSSA offers special sessions during the first two years of membership. These sessions help new members enhance their leadership skills and present opportunities to network with colleagues through the province, particularly those at the BCSSA and Ministry of Education. There is no cost to attend.
Half-day sessions for new members are held just prior to and at the same location as BCSSA's major annual professional development events:

Additionally, there is a two-day orientation program at the end of September that is hosted by the BCSSA and Ministry of Education. The activities include a networking dinner at which the Deputy Minister of Education welcomes new members; a one-day introduction to the work of the BCSSA; and a day-long meeting at the ministry offices with an orientation to ministry intiatives, services and key leadership personnel. This is a very important event to mark on every new member's calendar! The BCSSA covers all costs to participate in the program.
Also included in the program is the presentation The District Effect on Student Learning by Robin Brayne, Deputy Director for the Centre for the Study of Educational Leadership and Policy at Simon Fraser University.
