AGM Call for Nominations
The Annual General Meeting of the BCSSA will be held:
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2008
4:30 pm-6:00 pm
Victoria Conference Centre, Victoria, BC
The Nominations Committee, chaired by BCSSA President Geoff Jopson, Superintendent of Schools, SD 45 (West Vancouver), seeks nominations for the position of:
President
Vice-President
Secretary Treasurer
Professional Development Chair
Membership Chair
The positions are for a one-year term, expiring at the Annual General Meeting in November 2009. If you are interested in being considered as a candidate for any of the above positions on the BCSSA Executive or wish to nominate another member to run for office please contact Geoff or Wendy Lee. If nominating another BCSSA member, please be sure to have that members permission.

Please submit nominations by Wednesday, October 29. The slate of candidates will be posted after October 31, 2008.
Nominations will also be accepted from the floor on November 27, 2008.
Financial Market Turmoil and Teachers Pension Plan
The news media is currently reporting constant ups and downs of stock markets around the world and how these swings are affecting retirement savings of individual citizens. Attached is a memo from BC Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC) CEO, Doug Pearce, explaining the current financial volatility in BC, along with a reassuring memo for educators from the Teachers Pension Plan entitled, Pensions safe in times of market volatility.

BCSSA New Members Program
OCTOBER 4-6, Victoria This years program was hosted by BCSSA President Geoff Jopson and Membership Chair Jean Borsa and organized by BCSSA Programs Manager Colin McDougall. Professor Robin Brayne of Simon Fraser University led a workshop on, The District Effect The Nature of District Leadership. The Ministry of Education also hosted an interesting and informative day, Inside the Ministry. Highlights included a welcoming speech by Deputy Minister James Gorman at the special reception and dinner.

AFN British Columbia Regional Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo is a Hereditary Chief from the Ahousaht First Nation. Traditional teachings guided Shawn to serve First Nations for 20 years as a leader, negotiator, facilitator, mediator, strategic planner, and President of Umeek Human Resource Development.
