Awards & Recognition
The BCSSA Award of Recognition is presented to individuals and organizations for their contributions made to enhance public school education in British Columbia. The contribution may be of a local nature (i.e., to a specific district or districts) or of a general nature which has had a province-wide impact. The award recipient may be an individual, service club, corporation or non-profit organization.

Margaret Sutherland, Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL)
Master of Ceremonies Jean Borsa congratulates Margaret Sutherland of Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL), a charitable non-profit organization that supports strong community and lifelong learning. Throughout the Columbia Basin, CBAL educates the public about the importance and benefits of literacy by supporting local community actions based on the principle of expanding and improving literacy practices.

Nathan Matthew
Nathan has worked for 25+ years in Aboriginal education within the public school structure and community school structure to improve school success for Aboriginal learners. Matthew currently serves on the BC First Nations Forestry Advisory Council and the UBC First Nations Forestry Program Advisory Committee. He is also the BC First Nations Representative on the Education Advisory Council to the Minister of Education.
