Tides
As you may know, tides rise and fall
according to the position of the moon and the sun. The sun's pull of gravity is
much greater than the moon's, but the moon is nearer to the earth in space, so both have approximately
the same gravitational pull. Tides are formed by the gravitational pull of
these two bodies in ocean water, because such liquid is easier flowing
than solid land. If the sun and the moon are on either side of the equator,
there will be high tides at zero latitude, and low tides at the north and south
poles. If the sun and the moon are at a right angle to the earth, then the
tides everywhere will be approximately the same. Below is a few diagrams explaining
the tides.
